
J. Walker Richmond III is the third generation of the Richmond family to join the firm. His practice emphasizes the areas of conservation easements, estate planning, trusts and estates, and business law.
Mr. Richmond graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2004. While at the University, he served as Notes Editor on the Virginia Law Review, did pro bono work with the Legal Aid Justice Center, the International Rescue Committee, and the Virginia School Boards Association, and tutored members of the University of Virginia football team.
Mr. Richmond did his undergraduate work at Dartmouth College, graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa in 1995. While at Dartmouth, he studied in St. Petersburg, Russia and London, England, and also spent a semester as a White House intern in the Office of Cabinet Affairs.
Prior to entering law school, Mr. Richmond taught middle school and high school history for six years in Massachusetts, Florida, and northern Virginia. In 2001 he received the McDonald's "Teacher Achievement Award" based on accolades he received from students and parents. Mr. Richmond completed a masters degree in education at Columbia University in 1999.
Mr. Richmond remains very interested in educational policy and the intersections between law and education. His note, "Charter School Accountability: Rhetoric, Results, and Ramifications," was published in Volume 12 of the University of Virginia Journal of Social Policy and the Law.
Mr. Richmond serves on the Boards of Directors of the United Way - Thomas Jefferson Area, the Field School of Charlottesville, and the Lewis & Clark Exploratory Center.
Mr. Richmond is an avid runner who particularly looks forward to the Charlottesville Ten Miler each spring. In the fall of 2007 he completed the Chicago Marathon in epic heat; he is looking forward to running again in the Windy City in more hospitable conditions.
