 Founded in 1882, Richmond & Fishburne has provided quality legal services to the Charlottesville, Albemarle County and Virginia community for over a century.
Former Charlottesville mayor Daniel Harman established the firm at O Court Square in Charlottesville as a sole practitioner with quill and pad. Many distinguished lawyers continued Mr. Harman's tradition of quality legal services. Richmond & Fishburne took its current name in 1966 in recognition of its distinguished senior partners, Joseph W. Richmond and Junius R. Fishburne.
Today the firm has relocated to a newer Court Square location and uses the latest technology and equipment to provide cost effective, quality representation for its clients. The firm's practice areas include wealth and estate planning, trust and estate administration, elder law, real estate, and business law . Its client base includes individuals and businesses throughout Virginia.
 Members of the firm have been recognized in Best Lawyers in America and Virginia's Best Lawyers. They have held offices in local, state and national professional associations. They are frequent presenters at continuing legal education seminars and other programs for attorneys throughout the state, and are authors and editors of various articles and legal publications.
Through the years members of the firm have held leadership positions in local and state organizations, including president of the Virginia State Bar, mayor of Charlottesville, and Virginia State Delegate and Senator. They have served on boards of charitable and other non-profit organizations and have provided pro bono legal services to citizens who would otherwise be denied legal representation. The American Red Cross, United Way, Jefferson Area Board for Aging, Martha Jefferson Hospital and Rotary have all benefitted from the participation of the firm's members on their governing boards and committees. Members of the firm have been involved in the formation of several elder care communities in central Virginia, including Westminster-Canterbury of the Blue Ridge and Mountainside Senior Living.
The firm's current attorneys, Joseph W. Richmond, Jr., Wendall L. Winn, Jr., Joseph M. Cochran, Marcelle Morel and J. Walker Richmond III, and their successors will continue to provide Virginia with quality legal services in the years to come.
